After seeing out his duty at Lillestrom, Bjorn Sigurdarson has completed his move to Molineux.
The £2.4m deal was agreed in June, but the club had 3 league games they wanted him to fulfill before leaving, and the deal has now finally been completed. Sigurdarson has signed a 4 year contract after passing a medical yesterday.
Following his move, he said, "This is a dream come true that I am now moving to England and joining Wolves. I went from Iceland 3 years ago to play in Norway and, from there, I was always hoping to make another step towards a bigger club and now the dream has come true!
It’s nice to get it all sorted, so I can get out to Ireland and get to know everybody. I know Eggert from the international set-up and he’s a fantastic guy. It’s great for me that he is here."
Sigurdarson's half-brother, Joey Gudjonsson, has warned him of the demands of English football. As well as playing 11 games for Wolves, Gudjonsson has spent time with Aston Villa, Leicester, Burnley and Huddersfield, so he's no stranger to England.
Sigurdarson said, "My brother was playing over here and I always followed him. He told me the quality is high and it can be tough and you have to be at a high fitness level to do well. I’m ready to build up to that and will do my best to make sure I am ready.
Joey told me a lot about Wolves, but he has also told me that now the facilities are a lot different to when he was here a good few years ago. They are a lot better now and Joey said it should be fantastic for me."
Sigurdarson's other 2 half-brothers have also played in England. Bjarni Gudjonsson spent time at Newcastle, before playing for Stoke, Coventry and Plymouth and Thordur Gudjonsson played for Derby, Preston and Stoke.
Wolves did well to capture the man said to be the best talent to emerge from Scandinavia since Zlatan Ibrahimovic, as Everton and Fulham were interesting in signing him. A key factor to the transfer was Stale Solbakken, who is a cult figure in Norway and a former Lillestrom player. Sigurdarson said, "Stale is a fantastic guy. I know people speak really highly of him and they have told me it’s going to be great for my career to work with him."
He went on to say, "I’ve had a lot of nice messages from fans on Twitter welcoming me to the club. It’s fantastic to get that support from people already.
I’m really looking forward to doing my best and trying to help the team. This is a great opportunity for me and I want to make the best of it.
I’m just wanting to get settled in now. My girlfriend and I will move here next week after the trip."
