The End Of The Road?
Jody Craddock's Wolves career looks like it has come to an end, as he will not be travelling with the squad to Ireland. However, the club have confirmed that a decision on the centre back hasn't been made yet.
Talks with Jez Moxey will take place over the next few days, as the club discuss the option of offering Craddock, the longest serving player in the squad, a new year contract. This would see him enter his 10th year at Molineux, which means he would then qualify for a testimonial game.
Ståle Solbakken said, "I've spoken to Jody and explained the situation, after he asked how things were looking. We already have a number of central defenders battling for positions, and I am also looking to bring in another. Jody won’t be joining us at the first team training camp in Ireland. However, this doesn’t mean the door is completely closed and the club will continue discussions with him."
Craddock said, "The manager's been straight with me and told me how it is and that I will not be in the squad which travels to Ireland. There’s an opportunity now to consider my position, which could still include remaining with Wolves if all parties agree. I’ve been here for 9 years now, which is unusual in football these days, and I want to take the time to reflect and consider all my options."
Moxey said, "It has been something of a rollercoaster period over the last 9 years, but one of the strong and enduring personalities throughout that time has been Jody Craddock. Both on and off the pitch, he has been a consummate professional, displaying all the qualities that we at Wolves wish to see in a player and a person.
We have also had plenty of successes in that time, in which Jody has played a key role, particularly when he was captain for much of the Championship-winning season and also when he was brought back into the team during our second season in the Premier League and helped us stay up. The Club will now sit down and talk to him in more detail about his future."
Former team mate Colin Cameron believes that Craddock fully deserves a testimonial. The former centre mid said, ""He deserves a testimonial. There are exceptional cases and, because of the service he has provided for the club, he’s such a case.
The club has been excellent for Jody and he has repaid that so there is an opportunity there for him to be rewarded. With the commitment he’s shown, it would be nice for him to get some sort of recognition."
